Marketing
I hate it. It’s, I think, my least favorite part of publishing. For the entire week I’ve been trying to post more on TikTok, Threads, even Istagram, an app I swore I’d never use for… some reason. Gonna be honest, I’ve had a whole kid since that decision, so what prompted it, I can’t recall.
Still, I’m planning on releasing one book this year and three books next year. I’ve got to get that marketing train on the tracks. Which means making posts about the upcoming books and looking into what it actually takes to get published. For now, I’m not even settled on if I want to have a traditional paper option for the tarot mafia series, since I’m not 100% sure what the upfront cost on that will be or what the demand for it is.
Lucky for me, my uncle literally teaches classes on business, so when he returns from his vacation, I plan on cornering him and bribing him with blueberry coffee in exchange for help with the logistics and legalities of it all. It’s hard, doing these things on your own, but I’m hoping the light of being an official published author at the end of this tunnel keeps me going.
On the writing front, I got not bubkis done, but it feels like it. Over 2,000 words in Ace of Swords, but it feels like nothing in the long run considering how much I have to write for that collection. I knew this would happen though. There’s some massive changes at my job right now, so it’s all hands on deck, and I’m not getting the time I normally get to write during the day. I could write when I get home, but that’s been spent catching up on some much needed sleep after the chaos of the last two weeks.
No clue what my next week’s going to look like. They’re launching a completely new system at work (hence all hands on deck) and I haven’t even gotten trained on it yet. As a result, I’m keeping my expectations low. I’m spending this weekend recharging and getting ready for the storm ahead, and next week I’m buckling down on writing Ace of Swords and editing Ace of Wands so I can get a beta for it. Hopefully next week or the week after.
With that, I’m signing off for now! See you all next week when I hopefully get back to administration work instead of taking all these calls!
